Maar liefst 70 % van de winkeldiefstallen gaan tegenwoordig via de de zelfscankassa’s. En retailers geven ook aan dat het aantal diefstallen gestegen is.
Vaak wordt een diefstal in de supermarkten pas opgemerkt als ze zien dat de voorraad van een artikel niet meer klopt. Dan is het te laat om in te grijpen. Per jaar wordt er voor 1,4 miljard euro aan eten en drinken gejat in supermarkten. Uiteindelijk komen deze kosten terecht bij de ondernemer, die het weer doorschuift naar de consument.
